MANCHESTER four-piece Spring King are producing a romantic post-punk sound that begs to be heard. Their conception occurred back in 2012 when they were initially formed as a side project for LIPA (The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts) graduate and lead singer/drummer/producer Tarek Musa. Since then, busting ears and winning hearts has become a speciality and we're excited to see what's to come from the band who are currently on tour with rock duo Slaves. The title-track from their second EP 'Demons' sounds remarkably similar to Palma Violets in places, however the quality is beyond comparison. With intense drumming and a lush guitar solo thrown in for good measure. Spring King show us exactly why we should get pumped for their future. The track is a near-perfect slice of brilliance and features epic riffs that cascade and collide as the sub-four minute cut winds on.
Unsurprisingly, the band have caught the attention of other artists such as The Wytches and Twin Peaks who they travelled to the US with as part of CMJ Festival. Another huge feat for them is that they were the first band ever to be played on Apple's global live streamed radio station, Beats 1. The track that was broadcasted was the incredibly catchy 'City' - a fuzz-rock number with gigantic hooks that certainly crank up the frenzy for Spring King.
Speaking to WIRED.co.uk after their track was played, Tarek Musa said that the "online reaction has been quite crazy," and that "it's been really positive, a lot of people who have never heard the song before had an opportunity to hear it and are really enjoying it."
Their sound is a mixture of style and substance rolled into one and they don't pussyfoot around. With their glaze firmly fixed forward, the devastatingly accomplished four-piece have announced a tour to take place in February next year; you should definitely get down to one of their gigs and check them out if you haven't already.
