Arctic Monkeys to play the Olympics

Rumours have emerged that Arctic Monkeys are to play the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Members of the band have been spotted out in the London area recently. Various reports have tracked the band to a North London recording studio. Whilst we don't know for sure why they were at the studio, it has been suggested that they are either recording material for their fifth album, or recording a track for the Games. Watch this space for more on that as further details are disclosed.

As of 2.30pm (BST) nothing has been confirmed just yet, however drummer Matt Helders and his Mum Jill Helders have left revealing tweets across social networking site Twitter. Jill tweeted her son saying "What happened to #savethesuprise?". This was in reply to Matt tweeting a photo of his Mum trending in the United Kingdom. It can be seen that Matt is quite clearly within the Olympic area, as he is using their wifi.

As of 4.00pm (BST) it has been officially confirmed that Arctic Monkeys will play the Olympic Games opening ceremony tomorrow night (July 27th). Tune in on BBC1 tomorrow evening to witness their performance, along with many other artists.

My Next Big Thing: Wet Nuns

Wet Nuns. You may be thinking to yourself 'who are they?' well continue reading, because the northern duo are the band whose name will soon be gracing everybody's lips. Described on their twitter profile as "Undead Blues-Stoner-Punk duo from Yorkshire. On an inverted crusade of rock". It's not difficult to see why (Arctic Monkeys drummer) Matt Helders has kept a close eye on them. His fellow band member (and best mate) Alex Turner may have tipped Alabama Shakes as the next great thing, he's not wrong either. It's just there's something special that Wet Nuns have created - something we don't see so much of anymore.

Their track Heavens Below has heavy metal elements thrown in with rock, they're a band that fall halfway between Metallica and Biffy Clyro. Definitely not for the faint hearted, another of the band's singles Throttle has a video unlike others you may stumble across. With plenty of blood and gore it's best suited to those who are mature, however if the children are hardcore enough - let them at it. Wet Nuns produce tracks that scratch at your soul in an effort to be remembered. That's not a bad thing, and what's more impressive is that actually you do remember them.

Exclusively for Record Day 2012, back in April Wet Nuns released a limited edition 7" vinyl. If you'd like to hear tracks from this record played live, you can catch them at gigs across the country.
  • Kazimier Krunk Fiesta, Liverpool - June 16
  • The Black Heart, Camden - June 28
  • Bestival, Isle Of Wight - September 6,7,8,9
  • Plough Your Ears Inn, Forfar - September 22
If you would like more information on the band you can find it below.
