Moody-pop duo, Mother Me spent a fair amount of time in a number of dark rooms in London. Their brilliant debut 'Make Me Whole/Norwegian Wool' was inspired by this time and sets a mellow and melancholic vibe from the off.
A-Side 'Make Me Whole' was crafted by the duo, formed of Becca Mercer and Josh Buchanan, back when they used to practice in a tool shed at the end of their garden. The sub-five minute cut serves as the perfect introduction to their intricate indie-folk sound, complete with haunting vocals and powerful beats.
'Norwegian Wool' adopts a more sombre tone and deals with a family death. Soft and sweet guitars provide the ideal set-up for Mercer's timid, yet breathtaking vocals to take centre stage. An utterly bewitching fusion - elements of The XX and The National's sound can be heard at times too, although this is a remarkable debut effort from the pair.
Mother Me are already making an impact on the Brighton scene they originated from. With tracks like 'Make Me Whole' and 'Norwegian Wool', the promise of a bright future awaits them.
