Top 5 acts to catch at Citadel 2017

Citadel is a relatively new festival for London, combining the city's creativity with a thrilling line-up of artists and they've never disappointed in the two years they've been running.

Taking place in Victoria Park on 16th July, for one day only it becomes a sun-drenched utopia; the ultimate summer Sunday.

This year, the festival announced Foals as sole headliners and this will be the Oxford group's only UK festival performance in 2017.

Keeping anticipation levels high, the organisers of the event left it a while before announcing the rest of the line-up but we now have that information and all we can say is roll on July.

Here's our top 5 picks of who to catch at Citadel Festival 2017.

Foals

This is an obvious selection but you can't rock up to Citadel and not see Foals. The quartet have worked their way up over the years and become indie rock heroes in their own right.

After headlining Wembley Arena and Reading & Leeds last year, there's no doubt that Foals can conquer anything they set their minds to. They've also got four albums jam-packed with more bangers than a firework factory, which certainly helps out a lot.

Maggie Rogers

It feels like everyone is in love with American folk-pop artist Maggie Rogers at the moment - and rightly so. After impressing Pharrell Williams at a music masterclass in New York, Rogers' route to stardom has been a swift one and her recently released EP stands out as an instant classic.

Citadel is currently set to be one of her only UK dates, although we're keeping our fingers crossed for more shows to be announced on this side of the Atlantic soon.

Laura Marling

Having just put out her sixth studio album 'Semper Femina', British singer-songwriter Laura Marling is expected to play the new record to crowds at this summer's Citadel, alongside her much-loved older tracks.

Marling has previously been nominated for the Mercury Prize and won Best Female at 2011's Brit Awards. Her new album is more of an intimate exploration of femininity and female relationships.

Some consider it to be her best work to date, but everything Laura Marling does is nothing short of brilliant. Witness her greatness for yourself at Citadel 2017.

Michael Kiwanuka

Nobody's looking forward to playing Citadel this summer more than Michael Kiwanuka. "Playing a hometown show is always very special to me, but to play Citadel in Victoria Park this summer is going to be incredible" the singer recently revealed.

The soul artist has received backing from the BBC's annual 'Sound of...' poll in the past and has a couple of extraordinary award-winning albums under his belt.

Prepare yourself for an unmissable performance from the artist who has drawn comparisons to the great Marvin Gaye but is set to go one better this summer.

RY X

Hailing from Australia, but now based in LA - RY X has been on the radar of the music industry for quite some time but only recently has he been pricking all the right ears.

His debut EP 'Berlin' was a game-changer and the title track is now a definite fan favourite. 2016 saw the release of his debut record 'Dawn', which went on to be acclaimed by critics worldwide. Add RY X to your Citadel itinerary and you won't be disappointed.

Tickets are available now.
