8 acts to catch at The Great Escape 2017

The weather's hotting up and it's not long until The Great Escape returns to Brighton for another spectacular weekend of music. The line-up for 2017 is looking finer than ever and we can't wait to see what surprises the festival's organisers have in store this year.

Europe's leading multi-venue festival for new music is set to take place from Thursday 18th - Saturday 20th May this time round and will see hundreds of artists descend upon the city.

It doesn't matter what type of music you favour; The Great Escape has something for everyone. Here's our guide to who you should be aiming to be at the front of the queue for.

Middle Kids

In case you haven't guessed already, we adore Middle Kids here at RR. The "little Sydney band that's making stuff" are fast growing a positive reputation and have the potential to be huge, which they're already fulfilling.

Their recently released, self-titled EP features textbook bangers, 'Edge of Town' and 'Never Start' which are bound to go down a storm live and see them win a horde of new fans over to their side.

Cherry Glazerr

LA trio, Cherry Glazerr unveiled their second album 'Apcoalipstick' back in January, which saw them come on leaps and bounds and evolve into a wildly complex and guitar heavy outfit.

Cherry Glazerr's recent frenzied live shows have helped spread the word about their music too and there's seemingly no stopping them now - you'd be a fool to miss their set.

Fickle Friends

We bang on about this bunch of Brighton lovelies way too much but they're just incredible. As one of the leading emerging bands in the city at the moment, Fickle Friends were recently added to the line-up, which is a good job as The Great Escape would be incomplete without them.

Expect their set to feature recent track 'Hello Hello' and maybe even material from their upcoming debut album.

Dream Wife

Another Brighton outfit, Dream Wife are doing it for the girls. From art school beginnings as a performance art piece to embracing their love of edgy pop - the trio have an empowering attitude that bleeds into everything they do and we can't wait to see them showcase it.

MarthaGunn

Also hailing from (you guessed it...) Brighton but offering something remarkably different, MarthaGunn draw inspiration from the sounds of the 70s - notably Fleetwood Mac whilst retaining modern influences, such as Tame Impala and Mystery Jets in their music too.

The quintet are starting to amass a faithful fan base and are regulars on the South Coast gig circuit. Their initial releases have been delivered on Jazz Life records and Communion singles Club, but get down to the festival to hear unreleased cuts - you'd be mad to miss this formidable outfit.

Our Girl

Another product of the thriving Brighton music scene, Our Girl made their debut performance supporting Honeyblood in late 2014 and have been on the rise ever since.

Frontwoman, Soph Nathan also plays in The Big Moon and Our Girl's work ticks so many boxes it's hard to count. The trio have recently supported Sunflower Bean, The Wytches and The Magic Gang and if their recently EP 'Normally' is anything to go by, they're in for a blockbuster future. Add them to your festival schedule pronto.

Wild Front

Formed on the South Coast, Wild Front have previously self-released three singles that have caught the attention from the likes of BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing and are now set to play the BIMM Showcase at The Great Escape.

With a ton of festival experience behind them, Wild Front know how to put on a show and will certainly keep you entertained. If you're not familiar with them; now's the time to get acquainted.

The Amazons

Riff-ridled, anthemic rock Reading four-piece, The Amazons have been tipped by numerous outlets to do well in 2017. With an album on the way soon, these guys are headed for big things and The Great Escape provides the perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with them.

Strong songs and wild live shows make sure the band stand out from the crowd. They package up massive choruses with gloriously catchy hooks and the swell of chatter surrounding them is more than justified.

Tickets for The Great Escape 2017 are available here now.
