Mother Me emerge from the dark on 'Make Me Whole/Norwegian Wool'

Moody-pop duo, Mother Me spent a fair amount of time in a number of dark rooms in London. Their brilliant debut 'Make Me Whole/Norwegian Wool' was inspired by this time and sets a mellow and melancholic vibe from the off.

A-Side 'Make Me Whole' was crafted by the duo, formed of Becca Mercer and Josh Buchanan, back when they used to practice in a tool shed at the end of their garden. The sub-five minute cut serves as the perfect introduction to their intricate indie-folk sound, complete with haunting vocals and powerful beats.

'Norwegian Wool' adopts a more sombre tone and deals with a family death. Soft and sweet guitars provide the ideal set-up for Mercer's timid, yet breathtaking vocals to take centre stage. An utterly bewitching fusion - elements of The XX and The National's sound can be heard at times too, although this is a remarkable debut effort from the pair.

Mother Me are already making an impact on the Brighton scene they originated from. With tracks like 'Make Me Whole' and 'Norwegian Wool', the promise of a bright future awaits them.

'Make Me Whole/Norwegian Wool' is out now via Battle Worldwide.

Moody pop duo, Mother Me are no newbies when it comes to performing live, the outfit have certainly been making the rounds on the festival circuit and locally within Brighton and Hove, garnering the right kind of attention for some time. Their debut 'Make Me Whole' is one to embrace and sing back to them, spice up your Monday evening with a trip to Green Door to see them play.

Moon > Sun, pronounced moon over sun, put out the sort of wonky pop music you'll want to be hitting repeat on. There's a bunch of Animal Collective vibes at play on their latest EP and we're totally digging it. The experimental synth band bring something totally unique and fresh to the line-up, make sure to check them out on the night.

Experimental, noise punk four-piece, DITZ make one hell of a fuzz that's worth wrapping your ears around, this gang of melody makers a are a force to be reckoned with and we're betting they've got an exciting future ahead of them. Get down and see them before they get even bigger.

Brighton's HAKE have honed their brand of psychedelic grunge grooves and if you're not yet familiar with them, then now's the time to get acquainted. They're definitely a name to be spread around and we're looking forward to seeing how they approach their set at Green Door Store. The buzzy newcomers are nicely teed to come out of the blocks fighting by the end of 2016 - keep an eye out.

With plenty of incredible and upcoming local bands on offer, this line-up is jam-packed with quality and brilliance and you'll be hard pushed to find another gig night to rival it. Get down in your dungarees and support some local bands on the rise.

Mother Me 'Make Me Whole'

BRIGHTON doom groove duo Mother Me are set to release their debut track later this month and we've been fortunate enough to have a listen to their joyously escapist first offering.

'Make Me Whole' opens with an ethereal tinged harmony before the elegant arrangement picks up speed and sounds remarkably similar to tracks from Alt-J's debut album in places.

With beach fire vibes at its core, this effortlessly chilled number is one that will stir emotions and it is nothing short of brilliance. The epic yet intimate sound works wonders for the duo and there's ripples of delight as pure magic unfolds and spreads across the surface of the sub-six minute track.

Mother Me's celestial sound is one that we're certainly buying into. Fall into this frighteningly good debut; it's the sensual awakening we've all been waiting for.
