Resident // Brighton

INDEPENDENT record shop, Resident, situated in Brighton's iconic North Laine area is a hub for indie darlings alike. Offering a sharp contrast to the likes of HMV and digital music retailers, Resident is leading the way and proving to people why vinyl is still very much on the agenda and why we should continue to purchase music in a physical form.
Inside the store you'll find records and albums with stickers on containing detailed descriptions of the music, passionate and knowledgable staff who really know a thing or two when it comes to recommending music and they're always spot on.

The shop has just had a recent revamp, which includes an expansion of the shop floor to make room for even more records. Co-founder Derry Watkins told local newspaper The Argus: "There has been a huge increase, especially with younger people, which means there is a much wider range available now... Young people who used to be interested in CDs are now looking for vinyl so the record companies have started bringing out newer releases on vinyl with limited edition presses and covers and things to respond to that demand."

As well as selling music, Resident also sell tickets to gigs in the local area and frequently host in-store gigs and signings, which they are well-known for. All of these factors combined have meant that Resident have won the title of the UK's best independent record shop three times.

You can visit Resident at 28 Kensington Gardens, North Laine, Brighton and contact them on 01273 606312.
