Live review: Honeyblood - The Haunt 03.05.17

It's always a pleasure to welcome Honeyblood back to Brighton and this evening a mellow and relaxed atmosphere filters through the crowd, a stark comparison to previous support slots for the likes of the supercharged, teenage Superfood headlining the NME tour in 2014. Tonight lead singer Stina Tweeddale welcomes the crowd and thanks everyone for coming along to the show.

The tour coincides with the release of their recent album 'Babes Never Die' and sees Honeyblood take both Tear and Estrons on tour with them as support on this round of shows - they fit in nicely with Honeyblood's musical style and energy too.

Later this summer Honeyblood will be heading out on the road again, playing festivals such as Y Not Festival, Latitude and Reading to please their ever-growing fanbase.

Their set starts with tracks, such as 'Justine, Misery Queen' from the new album and progresses to highlights including the head bopping tracks 'Super Rat' and 'Killer Bangs' that are taken from the band's debut album.

Tweeddale engages frequently with the audience recollecting the last time she was in Brighton. Tour stories unfold whilst urging the furthest away audience members in the venue to come forward: "Come on guys at the back, come on forward and have a wee dance..." and dance they did.

September In Brief

With freshers' week only a matter of days away and children of school age returning back to the confines of the playground, September promises to be a cracking month for gigs and tours in Brighton. We've got you covered with all the essential info you need and who to see over the coming month, so get down to your local venue and support some upcoming artists; you won't be disappointed.

Loyal music fans will be heading over to Brighton's Preston Park for a weekend of music courtesy of Together The People on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th. The festival, now in its second year, will feature headline performances from Brian Wilson performing 'Pet Sounds' and 80s Britpop masters, Suede.

Local heroes, Fickle Friends will also take to the stage alongside The Horrors, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, MarthaGunn, Skinny Living, Egyptian Blue, Atlas Wynd, The Island Club, Mother Me and so many more local artists and established acts. If you're missing The Great Escape, then this festival offers another chance to get up close with the bands who will be topping the bills of major festivals in years to come. Grab it whilst you can.

Weekend and day tickets are still available and can be bought here.

Brooklyn four-piece, Mothxr are heading to The Green Door Store on Friday 10th for a show with support from Natives and Fairchild. The band have previously toured with Polica and The Neighbourhood but this headline tour will see the spotlight firmly fixed on them. If you're a Gossip Girl fan then you'll know that Penn Badgley, who played Dan Humphrey on the hit American TV drama, fronts the band. Catch the band in action at the intimate venue.

Tickets are £8.50 and can be bought here.

Los Angeles power-rock duo, Deap Vally are set to conquer Concorde 2 on Wednesday 21st when they debut new material from their second album live at the seafront venue. This gig has been a long time coming and we haven't seen a show from the group on British shores for quite some time. Their music is as much about attitude as it is heavy guitar and fast-paced drums - expect the unexpected. Support comes from The Velveteers.

Tickets are £12 and can be bought here.

Hampshire four-piece, Habitats are putting on a free-entry gig at The Green Door Store on Tuesday 27th. Armed with local lads Lion Bark in the support slot, both are promising, upcoming acts and it won't be long before you're hearing a lot more of them. Get down and show some support.

Entry to this event is free.

Glasgow's Honeyblood are heading down South to Patterns for a hugely-anticipated gig. The scuzz-pop duo will visit the venue on Thursday 29th so spice up your evening and be sure not to miss them. They've been garnering attention and coverage in all the right places for a while now and have certainly amassed a faithful fan base. You'd be mad to miss them. Support comes from Eat Fast and Breathe Panel.

Tickets are £10 and can be bought here.

Get To Know: Breathe Panel

Devon via Brighton foursome Breathe Panel are already hotly tipped from some of our favourite artists, shout out to The Big Moon, Abattoir Blues and The Magic Gang, and they've just landed themselves a sweet deal with Brighton's Fat Cat label. Now, the promising outfit are brewing the perfect storm with their stomping debut single 'On My Way'.

The catchy lo-fi track chugs along with fuzzy bass underlining the track and yearning vocals that complete the sub-three minute number nicely. It's a strong indicator of what's to come from the band, who have the potential to become as big as Wolf Alice and co if they continue in the direction they're already following.

'On My Way' is due to be released on 19th August via Fat Cat and is available to stream now. Breathe Panel will support Honeyblood on select dates of their DIY Presents UK tour later in the year.
